This is not a post, I was particularly keen to put up. It is with a lot of regret, that I have decided to cancel the Peel Rod Run for 2021.
There has been a lot going on in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, a major sponsor has withdrawn, This hole in funding (pre entry numbers not being where I would like them to be hasn't helped either) has meant i had to cut a lot of things, and at the end of the day, it meant I would not be able to deliver the event I had promised. The Peel Rod Run has the potential to be a huge annual event which could attract visitors from all over the country, but, it has to be done right the first time, and given the current situation, I find myself unable to do it. I feel it would be detrimental to you (and me) if I was to deliver a half baked event.
Secondly, and I do not want to use it as an excuse, but Covid 19 is weighing heavily on my mind, while things may be fine right now, at the moment it is still unstable and there is no telling what tomorrow or the next day will bring. I could not afford to have cancellation forced upon me 2 days out from the event should things go bad.
After consulting with the City of Mandurah, (who cancelled NYE fireworks, and The Crabfest) it was agreed that "better safe than sorry" was the best approach.
I can not thank you enough for showing faith in me and getting your entry in early, and i cannot apologise enough for the inconvenience this has caused. I can assure you this is not the end, I will be seeking other funding sources, and hopefully the Covid Situation will settle down over the next few months, I do not foresee running the event later this year, but, will definitely look at same time next year.
Those that were good enough to pre enter have been emailed, I know some have bounced back to me, so, if you have not recieved an email from me, please email me peelrodrun@gmail.com so I can let you know how to go about getting your money refunded. All Entry fees paid will be refunded in full via electronic transfer.
I want to thank the City Of Mandurah, who have been behind this 100% and have done all they can to make this happen for me, they have the same belief that this event can be something special for the region, and will continue to support this event into the future. Thank you to the ASRF and to all the local small business who were keen to get behind and support this event. Rest assured, I have not given up on it.
I thank you, and I apologise, hopefully we will catch up around the traps somewhere and we can have a chat!
