C M Motoring The Newborough Pub have joined to raise much needed awareness and funds for RUN DIPG in memory of Lucy McAleer.
Mel from C M Motoring has been friends with Lucy's Dad since high school and in July 2021, 2 days after her 8th birthday, Lucy was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumour called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).
Lucy underwent 33 sessions of radiotherapy over 6 weeks which she responded well to. However radiotherapy is the only treatment and it only buys time for this monster disease.
Lucy was doing really well until a few days into the new year where her symptoms returned very suddenly and Lucy rapidly declined.
By the start of February, Lucy was admitted to hospital where she spent her last 5 weeks there fighting for her life.
DIPG is rare with only 20 children diagnosed per year in Australia (1-2 in Victoria). The tumour sits at the base of the brain stem and attacks the vital parts of the brain eventually shutting everything down.
Lucy lost her ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and couldn't even hold her head up. She was trapped in a body that wasn't working.
This form of cancer has a 0% chance of survival and is the worst form of any cancer, particularly childhood cancer. Unfortunately because this is such a rare cancer, there still isn't enough research into finding better treatment that will give children and families more time together with a fighting chance of survival and hopefully in the future a cure.
Thats where we all can help $10.00 entry per car, a raffle will be held on the day any donations greatly appreciated. We will then cruise to the Newborough Pub for lunch. Cars can be parked to a block adjoining the beer garden for display. Don't have a classic car? No problem! Everyone is welcome on the day join in the cruise.
RUN DIPG, is a charity dedicated to improving outcomes for patients and their families impacted by the deadliest form of childhood cancer – the brainstem cancer.
We hope to raise awareness of this disease, and to generate funding to support the advancement of DIPG/DMG research.
