Hood Ornaments

Car design is an evolutionary process. The practical use of a cap on top of a radiator was a natural focal point for manufacturers to brand their products. Simple designs soon morphed into elaborate art and by the 1930s, many manufacturers were instantly recognizable from the adornment at the front of their products. Over time, radiator caps became enclosed under a hood or bonnet but the adornment continued in the form of a hood ornament. Every time I see an interesting one at a show, I can’t help but photograph it. Here’s a few I’ve spotted in the last few months. It’s all in the details.
