Following on from my last post about the Maldon Hearse Show and Mourning Tea, I thought I’d highlight this very unusual hearse.
I was lucky to talk to the owners Andrew and Alicia for quite a while about this amazing vehicle which has had a very interesting past.
Here’s some of the information from their show board…
”Little is known about the history of the professionally built hearse. It started life as a red station wagon before having a 300mm chassis extension and body transformation. It was used in Japan for over 10 years before being retired and sold”.
Verey Funeral Directors of Daylesford (run by Andrew and Alicia) purchased the hearse in 2016 and have been slowly returning it to its former glory.
Rebuilt suspension, factory bench seat and steering wheel reinstated, a factory sun visor, fender skirts. This hearse is well accessorized. The rear casket section is quite amazing with it’s lead light window and illuminated swan embellishments
And it’s also a working hearse and available for hire. In fact Andrew told me it’s just as popular as the more modern hearse he also uses for funerals.
It’s definitely an eye catching vehicle, but hearing the history of it makes it all the more interesting.
