The cars you see here have a story.
They are related in a few ways. The most obvious is the fact that they are both 4 door 1958 models produced by the the Chrysler Corporation during the wild “Forward Look” era. One is a Black Dodge. The other is a Red Plymouth.
The other way they are related is less obvious.
My name is Dale and I own the Plymouth. The black Dodge is owned by Shannon. However the Dodge used to belong to my great aunty Winnie. I had the opportunity to buy it back in the 1990s but couldn’t afford it on my apprentice wages. Shannon knew about the car as his aunt Jessie was friends with my auntie Winnie. He pestered her to sell it to him. He scraped together the cash and bought the Custom Royal. And he’s had it ever since.
This car was in our family since my childhood. It’s why I like big finned MoPars. It probably dictated my tastes in vintage 50s style well before I even realized. My grandma and grandpa travelled around Australia with my aunt and uncle in this old Dodge in the 70s. Many times. It’s done a lot of miles.
So when I had the opportunity to buy my 4 door Plymouth, there was a part of me remembering the old Dodge from my childhood.
Luckily I’ve since met Shannon and we were lucky to catch up on the weekend to get these shots.
I’m sure my Auntie Winnie would be pleased to see that Shannon has cared for her old Dodge as well as she did.
