There’s no doubt the 1955, 1956 & 1957 Chevrolet models were, and still are some of the most popular cars ever produced.
The ‘55 models were the first to feature the all new small block V8 which had such an enormous impact on the US auto industry for years.
The ‘56 and ‘57 restyles of the same basic body were successful in their simplicity. Sales numbers of 1.7+ million (55), 1.6+ million (56) and 1.5+ million (57) means there’s still quite a lot around the world.
Although some would argue that they weren’t the most beautiful or best cars of the mid 50’s, they no doubt have had a huge following for a long time and their appeal is timeless.
The parts availability in the form of custom parts and restoration reproductions are a huge reason these cars are seen so frequently and in such superb condition.
Here’s a gallery of some I’ve seen around Melbourne shows over the past year...
