There’s no doubt the 50’s were a decade of automotive excesses.
And the styling from Virgil Exners design studio for Chrysler Corporation is as dazzling now as it was when first introduced.
The “Forward Look” as it was known, is the period from 1955-61, and soaring tailfins were one of the key features these cars possessed that set them apart from many others on the road.
Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler and Imperial all sported their own style of fin.
Here’s a sample of some of the forward look fins I’ve photographed over the last year or two.
