Ford in the 1930’s

By the 1930’s, Fords dominance in the automotive world was well known, and envied by many other auto manufacturers. Streamlining the production line process was Henry Fords gift to manufacturing.

It also caused a few problems along the way as Ford was slow to adapt to new technology. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, was Henry’s way of looking at things. Ford was one of the last major manufacturers to move from mechanical to hydraulic brakes in their cars.

Nevertheless, the 1930’s did produce many beautiful models in huge numbers that have well and truly stood the test of time.

Cars like the iconic ‘32, the introduction of the Ford flathead V8 to the gorgeous ‘39 models, Ford styling was riding high during this period.

I definitely have a soft spot for these models as my dad owned the 1939 Standard Fordor you see in one of these pictures. Registration AA811, made in Geelong by Ford Australia. Unfortunately it’s no longer in the family but my parents have fond memories of driving it in the 60’s.

Here’s some of my archive of 30s Fords (One '40 Coupe made it in the mix too!)

Stock or modified, they are definitely beautiful old cars.
