Classic Car Quiz #2
◾️Name of owner?
David Harrison
◾️Car make and model?
1949 Morris Minor Low Lite 2 Door, built October 1949 & 1954 Morris Minor & Door Late Series 2 Deluxe.
◾️What’s the history of your car?
1949 Morris minor low lite built October 1949. I bought the car from Hobart approximately 14 years ago from a mechanic who had restored the Morry back to its original condition.
It still has the original motor and has been sprayed the original colour and the interior is as per spec. I have the spec sheet from the British heritage museum with all the details.
◾️Why do you love your cars?
I just love Morry’s. I had one as a paddock bomb and my parents also had one. I have always owned a Morris since my early twenties.
◾️Does your car have name?
My car doesn't really have a name, it’s just called the two door or old girl.
◾️How often do you drive your car? I try to drive the Morry as often as possible but tend to drive the 4 door more. Probably because it goes a little faster.
◾️What restoration/maintenance have you done on the cars?
The ‘49 was restored by the previous owner, I just replace any parts that wear out.
◾️Have you always been into classic cars?
I’ve always liked old cars, and I’ve had a few different Morry’s over the years, always looking for that special one.
◾️Any other classics in the garage?
I also have a 1962 Morris traveller which I am currently restoring. Also a 1949 Morris 10 awaiting restoration.
◾️What was your first car?
My first road car was a Morris 1100s.
The other car you see in the pics is David’s ’54 4 Door.
David explains...
“It’s a Morris Minor late series 2 deluxe model, which means it has a heater, passenger sun-visor and chrome trim on the door cards. I’ve had this one approximately 5 years. I bought it from the original lady owners’ grandson in East Maitland. The car was stored up on blocks for approximately 30 years after the lady died, then the grandson acquired the car and I purchased it from him. He was in his seventies. This is an original car with 90 percent original paint and original mileage of now about 11,000. Still has the original tar coating underneath from new. It has no rust and has not been restored. This is one of the special ones I was looking for.”
Thanks so much to David for sharing his automotive passion with me.
