Classic Car Quiz #13
◾️Name of owner - Liz & Uwe Mierke.
◾️Car make and model - VH Commodore SLX wagon in Venetian Red.
◾️When did you get the car/how long have you had it?
The previous owner delivered it in June 2019 as it was on club reg and we spent 3 months getting it ready for reg.
◾️Why do you love your car?
Because we had a VH Wagon previously( that was written off in an accident) for 17 years and found it to be a trouble free, cheap to fix and easy to fix yourself vehicle and we felt really comfortable in it, replacing it seemed the right thing to do.
◾️Does the car have a name and why?
Her name is RUBY and it was Liz that called her that the minute she saw it.
◾️What restoration/modifications have been performed on the car?
When we got the car it had dual fuel and air adjustable rear shocks with an air compressor under the bonnet. It took a while to remove the gas conversion and air lines for the shocks. Fortunately l kept the wreck of the other wagon so l could swap the new shocks and the fuel tank into Ruby, along with the retro mud flaps, interceptor wheels, custom sun visor l made and a few other things to make RWC.
◾️How often do you drive your car?
When we took possession of the car it only had done 105,000km. We have done a few trips and shows and it’s now up to 113,000km.
We try not to add too many but it is the vehicle we tour in. We haven't driven it much in the past few months (due in the main to Covid).
◾️Have you always been into cars, and if so what other cars have you had?
The first car l owned and drove legally was a Fiat 1500 MK3. It had a hot motor and could sit on 150 all day. I have owned an International AB120 4x4 that l put a 318 Chrysler and Torqueflite gearbox into. Had that up to over 200 on the Westgate Freeway in the 80's.
Have had 3 Range Rover classics (still drive an 83 2 door)
Own/ed a total of 3 Commodores.
◾️What was your first car?
My first car was a Morris Minor Lowlight Soft Top and l learnt to drive in it when l was 16.
