Amanda’s Kei Cars

Posted 4 years ago by Plymouth Dale Photos

This week it’s a couple of cars and owner I live with.

I’m used to lots of thumbs up and conversations with people when I’m driving my Plymouth, but in all honesty, these quirky little Japanese Kei cars get just as much attention as my big MoPar.

Kei class cars of this era were 550cc or less. The Acty has a 545cc. 2 cylinder engine. The Mighty Boy has been upgraded to F8B 800cc. 3 cylinder.

The fact that they are both in such nice original shape is also a talking point.

These cars prove you don’t need to spend a lot to have heaps of fun and participate in the car scene.

Classic Car Quiz #15

◾️Name of owner - Amanda

◾️Car make and model -1986 Suzuki Mighty Boy & 1986 Honda Acty TN Super Deluxe

◾️When did you get the car/how long have you had it?

I bought the Mighty Boy just over 12 months ago in October 2019.

The Acty I bought from a guy who imported it from Japan. It was delivered to our house just as the first COVID lockdown was happening in April this year.

◾️Why do you love your car?

I have loved “older” cars for a long time. I have also had a thing for utes for a long time. I drove a Toyota Hilux for a few years. I saw my first Mighty Boy at a car show a few years ago. It was like the perfect combination of “older” car and my love of utes! When I had the opportunity to buy one myself I was so excited. Mighty Boys are such a fun car. They make so many people smile. I love it. And that was also the beginning of my love for unusually “tiny” cars. Thus I discovered the tiny trucks and vans and other vehicles that the Japanese seem to manufacture so well. And that’s how I came to find myself the owner of the tiny Honda Acty truck.

◾️Does the car have a name and why?

No names for the cars. Just referring to them as the Mighty Boy and “the truck”.

◾️What restoration/modifications have been performed on the car?

The Mighty Boy when I first bought it had a chopped down to size Hilux roll bar on the back instead of its’ standard roof racks plus a massive sized bull bar at the front with big spotlights attached to it. The first thing we did was take those off. We sourced a stock roof rack that we put back on the Mighty Boy. We also took off a modern racing style steering wheel and put a more appropriate period steering wheel on it. There was a faux black plastic hood scoop that was on the bonnet that we were also able to carefully take off. Mostly we have just done a few things to get the car back to its stock condition. Wheels are next on the agenda. Many fun stickers have been bought and added to the back window.

The Acty has not been touched really. Apart from adding some stickers.

◾️How often do you drive your car?

As often as possible. Every week usually. To work as often as I can.

◾️Have you always been into cars, and if so what other cars have you had?

I have admired cars for a long time but have not had the chance to own one before.

◾️What was your first car?

My first car was a Honda Accord Hatch.
