Marco’s Lancer
It’s a pleasure to meet likeminded enthusiasts.
People who are passionate about their particular car/s and the reasons why they own, drive and love them.
One such enthusiast I had the recent pleasure to meet is Marco.
He drove up to Melbourne from Sale, Victoria recently and we had a coffee, a chat and a photo shoot with his awesome little Lancer.
Marco is a car detailer which becomes obvious when you see the attention to detail of this now rare Chrysler.
You can get in touch with Marco for all your detailing needs here...

Classic Car Quiz #17
◾️Name of owner - Marco Brunel
◾️Car make and model - I drive a 1979 Chrysler Lancer Hatchback .
◾️When did you get the car/how long have you had it?
I bought the Lancer almost 12 months ago, I originally was going to buy a Galant, but as soon as I saw this, I knew It was the car for me. Best choice I could of made, if you ask me.
◾️Why do you love your car?
It's just a great little car all around. It's easy to work on, it's cheap on fuel and it's just fun to drive. But most of all, I love this car even more since my old man passed away last year of a heart attack. He was so excited to see me get this car on the road but unfortunately he passed away on the day I got her registered and roadworthy. On the day of the roadworthy, he rang me up and told me to give him a call as soon as it's on the road, but before I went to pick the car up that afternoon from the garage, I received the sad news that he had passed away suddenly of a heart attack. When I first bought the car, he told me that I should try to learn to do all the work myself. Before this car I only knew how to do an oil change. Now I do everything on her, from a simple oil change to an engine swap over. During Covid 19 and the passing of the old boy, I worked on this car day and night and at every chance I could. I have definitely enjoyed working on this car .
◾️Does the car have a name and why?
I’m not sure if she has a name, but if I was going to give her a name, it would be Celeste, for the fact of the different names they call this car in different countries. In the Philippines they call this car a Mitsubishi Celeste,. In the USA they call it a Plymouth Arrow, and in Australia it's a Chrysler Lancer.
◾️What restoration/modifications have been performed on the car?
I have installed the following... new carpet, car builders sound deadener, acoustic sound proofing foam, custom exhaust and headers and replaced the carpet at the bottom of the door trims. 1970s sound system. Performance challenger mag wheels. Replaced the engine with a stock 4g32. The original motor was very tired and leaked oil like a sieve. I'm hoping to get the original motor rebuilt next year with a little more performance + add a small supercharger to her.
◾️How often do you drive your car?
I drive the Lancer on a daily basis. It's just a fun little car to drive.
◾️Have you always been into cars, and if so what other cars have you had?
I've always loved classics as the old man has always had them. I've mostly owned 4 cylinder classics.
1982 Ford Fairmont Ghia TD Gemini Panel Van. TX Gemini Sedan. Honda Accord Type R mock up. 81 Corona Lift back. Sigma. Datsun 120Y. Datsun Stanza SSS. And now the Lancer. My goal one day is to own a classic V8 of some sort. Hopefully after I have finished the Lancer off.
◾️What was your first car?
My first car was a Datsun Stanza SSS.
